The Voices United (VU) Women’s Group consists of Robson Ranch residents who meet regularly to discuss progressive ideas and values. Throughout the year, the VU organizes multiple fundraisers to help those in need. On October 2, VU held their annual fundraiser for IGNITE. IGNITE is a non-partisan movement of young women who are ready and eager to become the next generation of political leaders. IGNITE has many chapters in North Texas including the University of North Texas and Texas Women’s University. Whitney Thomas and Cecilia Silva from IGNITE joined in the event and presented the exciting work the group is doing.
This year’s fundraiser was a huge success! Patti Kelly and Janice Stanton, co-chairs of the VU Community Outreach Committee, organized the Cocktail Party/Fundraiser. Jane Thompson generously extended the use of her home for the event where over 42 women participated. All enjoyed appetizers, wine and soft drinks donated by the VU Entertainment Committee. Jane Scholz did a fabulous job finding donors to supply raffle prizes for which everyone could buy tickets. Total Wine & MORE of Denton generously donated the top raffle prize of a gift certificate for a Private Wine Class for 20 worth $500. Robson Ranch Voices United provided two raffle items of Veuve Cliquot champagne and a bottle of top California chardonnay, each retailing for about $50. The Wildhorse Grill also donated gift certificates for 2 to Thursday and Sunday buffets. Thank you Total Wine & MORE of Denton, Wild Horse Grill!
Overall, the annual Voices United Fundraiser for IGNITE raised $3,100 from the ticket sales and donations, and $1,200 for the raffle. The total amount raised was $4,300. There was an additional amount raised in April from the mini-fundraiser of $730 making the 2019 donation to IGNITE $5,030. With teamwork of several VU committee members making the event a reality, the fundraiser was a great time and a HUGE success!
